Post Arthroscopy / Total Hip Replacement (THR) / Total Knee Replacement (TKR)
Immediately after your surgery, your hospital health care team will monitor your initial recovery and make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. The nursing staff monitors your recovery, and your physiotherapist guides you through a program designed to restore function. The core components of a physiotherapy program include progressive movement exercises and muscle strengthening exercises. Before you are discharged, you will be given information on the exercises for home and although you will be able to do them at home, you may require monitoring, progression and ongoing advice. Your commitment to your exercise program is important. If you need help, a physiotherapist within the community can become the valuable team member for your full recovery. At Bloor Jane Physiotherapy, we provide the support. When can you return to work? When can you take on a sport or new activity? How do you deal with intermittent pain? What can you do and what should you avoid? All these questions and more are what our physiotherapists are well-qualified to answer. A new treatment plan will be designed as your circumstances change. Bloor Jane Physiotherapy will help you achieve peak performance.
Treatment of Spinal Dysfunction: Low Back Pain and Disc Pathology
Low back pain has always been the most common complaint of new patients in a physiotherapy practice. Complaints vary widely to include acute or chronic pain, lifting injuries, car accidents, repetitive strains, sciatica and disc herniations.
Interestingly, most patients arriving at a spinal clinic will receive the same treatment as the person before them, regardless of their dysfunction. Symptom relief is the typical focus, rather than resolution of the condition.
At Bloor Jane Physiotherapy, however, physiotherapists conduct a comprehensive, individualized assessment to determine causation. Spinal assessments include many components. In the McKenzie assessment, the spine is stressed in differing degrees and directions to note the response. Changes in symptoms, location, intensity, range of motion and neurological signs are monitored. An individual physiotherapy treatment program is developed, keeping in mind observations for asymmetry and palpations for pathology.
Recent articles on comparative treatment approaches testify to the fact that recovery from low back pain is slower when patients are given one standard back exercise program, but speedier when given an individualized workout specific to their injury or pathology.
